Spring days 2022 exhibition, and fundraiser for Sri Lanka.

I am really excited to be part of this special group show put together by @offthekerb

The exhibition ‘Spring days' runs from 8-22 September 2022.

A portion of all sales goes to support those in Sri Lanka.

My image (top of this post) 'Spring days 2022'. is a mixed media version of my image - Flora #31, July 2022. This was a Multiple exposure on Velvia 100, 35mm film. I then printed it on matte archival paper and used goauche and watercolur to tone down the distracting areas. It is framed and a unique piece.

.

Lifted from @offthekerb 's insta post: . Bring your love and generosity to raise well needed funds to support the less privileged affected by the economic crisis in Sri Lanka!! 🇱🇰

🔸️OPENING NIGHT: Saturday 10th Sept 6pm - 8pm

Photos from Boston

I was in Boston very early in the new year and the tempreture was so very cold.. one day was between -16 to  -18 Celsius. Here are some photos.

Escaping the cold, by being indoors. Don't let the clear looking sky fool you.

Night time in black and white.

A mound of dirty snow.

A slightly warmer day to walk around in, perhaps only -5 to -7 Celsius.

I definately need to go back in warmer times.

CCP Salon

If you are in Melbourne, (Aus), I have a few (six) pieces in the CCP salon. Have a look online or go in and see the works in person. So many wonderful images.

I just found out that this small (4x5 inches), experimental piece of mine has sold.
.
Title: 'Blended memory #2. From Swansea to Port Arthur, Tasmania (2019).'
.
We travelled across the land, with the sea at one side. We talked about our past relationships, and of our hopeful future together. Some of the moments we shared are still vividly clear. Some have merged and are blended. While the trip itself has in most parts, become dreamlike, the feeling of hopefulness we shared, remains clear and strong.

The art of self portraits and AI interpretation.

I stumbled across an AI program which transforms any photo of you into art. Some of the results were awesome and some were... well... crap.

The website is: https://ai-art.tokyo/en/

I have no idea about its safety etc..so keep that in mind.

I should point out that I have a good mate, whom I often send terrible and ugly selfies of myself.. as it not only makes him laugh, but it also irritates him...some of these have been 'interpreted' below.

Here are some of the hits and... misses of the AI program and my selfies.

This image was the AI's interpretation of of this image:

This last one (which I love especially with it's one tine creepy eye) was the AI's interpretation of this below photo (I was showing my mate that my jumper was now beyond repair, as I had mended it several times already):

After Alex... (New Years Eve 2019, NYC . 9412)

After Alex... (New Years Eve 2019, NYC . 9412)
.
You pointed out the light as we went on a walk that afternoon.
Which is why I name this 'after' you.
You stopped at every place I asked you to and never looked bored, nor were impatient.
It was the last day of the year.
We were invited to a party, but I said that I preferred to just be with you.
You smiled in agreeance as we headed back to your place and ordered in.
We drank to celebrate life and us.
I tried to keep up with you, and ended up on the bathroom floor at 3am.
I should have known better.
It was a good reminder to be myself when I am with you.
It was a good reminder that I don't need to impress you,
as you accept and love me just as I am,
as I do you.
.
We woke up together on New Days day.
I felt the luckiest person in the world.
Not because I didn't have a hangover,
But because you had your arms around me.
We lay in bed for ages
just being with each other.
It was the perfect start to a new year.

More collaborations on 35mm film

I have been doing some swapping of film with people and really enjoying it. Essentially you shoot on a roll of film, wind it back and send it to another person to shoot over the top of. Obviously the next person has no idea what they are shooting over, hence the random fun and sometimes beautiful outcomes.

Here are some images from a collaboration with John Baxter Weekes in NSW. John decided to have the film cross processed when being developed, just for some extra randomness!
You can see more of John's work on his Ello page: https://ello.co/baxtus
.

Collaboration: John Baxter Weekes (Australia) and Matthew Schiavello (Australia)

Double exposure (March 2019)

First Exposure - Matthew - Victoria, Australia.
Second Exposure - John - NSW, Australia.

Film:
AGFA Vista (Cross processed)

Post processing (including black and white conversions and inversions) - Matthew
