There must be something in the air or the water..as no sooner then do NME post a list of their 100 best songs of the 90's , Triple J have a 90's week!!!!
Triple J's request show- 'Good nights' with Linda Marigliano asked people to vote for their favorite 90's tunes.. the top five were:
5. Sir Mix-a-lot - "Baby got back"
4. Garbage - "Push it". I personally prefer their first single'Vow'
3. Regurgitator - Blubber boy (Such a great Aussie band and still making music!! This clip is very cool and I bet they had heaps of fun making it!)
2. Beastie Boys - 'Sabotage"
1. Nirvana - "Come as you are". I posted the Live 'MTV unplugged' version.. just because 'MTV unplugged' was very 90's!
From the NME list, I thought I'd

Pulp 'made it' with the Common People LP, but this tune from the earlier 1994 Lp 'His 'n' Hers' is a personal fav.. especially with lines like "Oh I want take you home, I want give you children, you might be my girlfriend, yeah!".. hmm Jarvis, did those lines actually work???!!
Pulp – “Babies”

At 89 in the list is Belle & Sebastian – “The Boy With The Arab Strap”. I love early Belle & Sebastian! “The Boy With The Arab Strap” is from the 1998 LP of the same name. Great lyrics like:
"A central location for you is a must as you stagger about making free with your lewd and lascivious boasts
We know you are soft cause we've all seen you dancing

What you get is just what you see"

there are some goodies amongst those aren't there? some of my favourites and, some i've never heard of, or, have forgotten completely. i love your video posts. good choice :)
ReplyDeleteAwww thanks Yevisha!!! I had so much fun watching the clips and would have posted 100 but decided on just a few. I was later thinking of how the list is very un-Australian! and how The Whitlams, You am I and so many other great Aussie tunes from the 90's are missing.. but perhaps that is another post ;-)
DeleteI am such a child of the 90s! And what? You am I isn't on the list!!??!! Love Regurgitator! Those were the days! Starting to feel old now.
ReplyDeleteDear Old Foggie (A.K.A. Child of the 90's), I agree with you about You Am I.. what about 'Custard', 'The Clouds' etc ???
DeleteMaybe we need to create a post of Great Aussie 90's Tunes??
Let's not forget TISM! Are they 90s??
DeleteThey are!
DeleteTISM released a couple of things in the late 80's.. however, their height of fame was mid 90's with singles like 'Greg the stop sign' and '(He'll never be an) O'l man river' that came off the 1995 lp 'Machiavelli and the Four Seasons'.
1998's lp 'www.tism.wanker.com' had the fun single with the 'OZ aerobics style' inspired clip 'Whatareya?'.
Sadly they called it a day in the early-mid 2000's.
Greg the stop sign - such a classic song!
ReplyDeleteAnd what about RatCat??!! Remember them and that 1 hit that they had...?
Is it bad that I love '(He'll never be an) O'l man river'?? It is a bit un-p.c.
DeleteI did think of Ratcat and 'that ain't bad'.. we all remember singing along to:
"They told me that you were really bad news.
They said you were no good for me.
They told me you were a bad bad person.
But you seem alright to me.
I love you.. Yeh Eh eh ehhhh
I love..."
Clip is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IAQPKds034
umm.. skinny leg jeans anyone?.. and seriously.. if the singer wasn't as good looking would that had made it so big??? That song an clip had all the right elements to be the hit that it was.. god bless them ;-)
